Australian painter, who spent some time in England, up to 1923 when he settled permanently in Victoria. He was knighted in 1937. From the description of Letters [manuscript]. 1894-1940. Always known as Tom Roberts. Arrived in Australia in 1869. Studied painting under Eugene von Guerard and Thomas Clark. Spent many years in London but returned to Australia in 1922.
